Antique Irish silver shield brooch. It measures approximately 5.3 cm in diameter. Weight is 23 grams. It is a copy of the medieval pennanular brooch "The Cavan brooch". It is marked "REGISTERED DECR 17TH 1849" on the rear and has been tested as silver. A small repair has been carried out and can be seen on the rear - other wise the brooch is in very good condition with small signs of wear commensurate with age.
